At NOMAD., our journey into the heart of Petoskey was filled with delightful surprises.

Okay so—ever just vibe your way through a day and accidentally create the perfect travel montage? That was today. Every stop was a new chapter, every taste a new experience.

We weren’t trying to chase down hidden gems or anything… and yet, somehow we ended up sipping coffee out of rainbow mugs, eating Korean tacos like we were on vacation in Seoul, and hunting for 350-million-year-old coral fossils in water so clear it felt fake. Let’s roll, because this adventure is just getting started!

Our explorations began at the unique local staple, Roast & Toast, where every sip of coffee tells a story.

Roast & Toast: Chaos, Caffeine & Ceramic Mugs of Joy

Imagine if a college coffee shop and a vintage art supply store had a baby—that’s Roast & Toast. Bright colors, funky art, a million different mugs, and zero pressure to be cool. Just good vibes and better coffee. This is a haven for creatives and coffee lovers alike, where each visit feels like a warm embrace.

I had the Mountain Mover sandwich (egg, bacon, cheddar = yes please) and a chai latte that basically wrapped my insides in a flannel blanket. The ambiance, combined with the delicious food, made for a perfect morning. We sat upstairs and people-watched while sipping our drinks like we were in some low-budget romcom, falling in love with the simplicity of life.

Fun Fact: Roast & Toast has been keeping Petoskey buzzing since 1993 and roasts their beans right in-house. You can even peek at the roaster while you wait in line. Coffee nerd heaven. Did you know they also offer unique seasonal blends that reflect the local flavor? It’s a true representation of the community spirit!

Next, we ventured to NOMAD., a restaurant that promises culinary adventures through its diverse menu.

🌮 Lunch at NOMAD.: Global Tapas, Michigan Cool

This place is a whole aesthetic. NOMAD. serves small plates with big flavors, and the space is a Pinterest board in real life, inviting you to stay a little longer. Think neutral tones, soft lighting, and the smell of butter and garlic flirting in the air, creating an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and sophisticated.

We got the Korean BBQ tacos and excuse me?! They came out looking like a magazine ad and tasted even better. A little sweet, a little spicy, all kinds of amazing. Each taco was a burst of flavor, leaving us wanting more, and the presentation was simply stunning.

Pro Tip: Order at least two dishes per person and prepare to share. Also? The truffle fries. Do not skip. Ever. These fries are not just a side; they are a must-have experience, perfectly seasoned and cooked to crispy perfection that elevates your meal.

Each visit to NOMAD. is an invitation to explore flavors from around the world, making it a perfect pit stop for adventurous eaters.

🪨 Walloon Lake: Mermaid Water + Ancient Fossils

We brought towels and snacks but quickly ditched them to wander the shoreline in search of Petoskey stones. These aren’t just any rocks—they’re fossilized coral from an ancient sea that covered Michigan 350 million years ago. No big deal. Each stone we found felt like a treasure from the past, connecting us to Earth’s history.

As we searched, we were mesmerized by the beauty of our surroundings—the way the sunlight danced on the water and the gentle sounds of nature created a symphony that calmed our souls.

🌅 Golden Hour Vibes

We closed the day with some lazy sunbathing and rock skipping, the kind of peaceful silence that only happens when everyone’s happy and full of tacos. We didn’t even mean to stay that long—but the light, the water, and the quiet kind of dared us to linger. It was one of those moments that make you appreciate life.
